Ways to improve this blog …

So,  having been at this a whole week, can’t understand why it’s not taking off and there aren’t thousands of people subscribing and leaving comments.  Of course, I’m being quite sarcastic.  What you just witnessed was me letting my ego out.  Let’s just stuff that right back where it belongs, shall we!

So, I thought I better do some research and round up some solid tips and try 3 of them.

Here were some my sources for this blogging information.  Found them on Google and read about them and then judged them based on what I see on other popular blogs, like Gary V. Or DC Rainmaker’s blog

Sprout Social’s Dominique Jackson came up early on the search results in Google and I liked his tips around publishing.

so I need some tips – Here’s what I got from the SEO Tips blog:

  1. Write for your audience – This seems straightforward enough.  However, I’m not sure who the audience is yet, except people that may be interested in music, like me.  So I guess things found here should always be music related.
  2. Relationship building is a good way to link build. – I surmising that to get more traffic you need more links.  Probably also increases your search engine score too.  Ok, seems to make sense.  Also fits in with putting myself out there and meeting people too.
  3. SEO basics – I think I’ll have to do more research around this.  Basically, put your content in a format that people searching for your topic will make it easy to find.
  4. Look at Google Webmaster tools. -Check, I can put that on the to do list.
  5. Build your authority .. . sound impressive!  I took this to mean as basically add value with your writing.  I’ll take that a step further.  I will strive to not complain, gripe, bitch, or otherwise put negative stuff on this blog with one caveat .. If I can offer a solution to whatever it is … and I mean like a well thought out solution. . . maybe I’ll let myself off the hook on this from time to time.  Slippery slope tho!
  6. Invest in SEO tools?  This kind of goes hand in had with a couple of the items above.  Basically, research some good tools.  Putting on the to do list.
  7. Create linkable content/assets – make your content accessible and valuable.

So item 1 seems like a given… but something I need to keep in mind.  So I’ll take that one.

Item 3,4,6 seem like research items I can do in my spare time.  There were some solid links in Dominque’s article so I just need to run those down and see if I can add them to my life.

Item 7 seems like something else that I should be doing with every post although it seems a little “heavy”.  The tips offered require you to build something… altho some of them are just rounding up information in one spot and offering that as value. to your readers.

As usual, the way this list is going, i’m about ready to overcommit.  So learning from past mistakes, I’ll step it back one or two notches.

I’m taking Item 1, 3, and 4 for the next 30 days. and sticking to my initial goal.

Check back in 30 days to see how we did. For reference point, here is the linkable asset for the blog . . traffic in the first few weeks 🙂

  1. Welcome! I’m on my 5th blog, and I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. Just don’t give up. Your style is pretty friendly and welcoming, so I think you’ve got a shot at being really reader-friendly. The way I’ve simplified SEO for myself is to just use words and phrases (especially in titles) that would be phrased the way someone would google it. Use the phrase once in the title, once in the first 100 words, and once every 200-300 words after that.

    Happy blogging!
